North East Sports Quiz League Rules
A. GENERAL RULES
1. All Teams must enter League, KO
Cup & Challenge Cup. The League shall run any extra competition
they deem suitable each year, rules and format to be decided by the
Committee.
2. The League shall be run by a
committee consisting of: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity
Secretary, Question Compilers and two representatives from each
division.
3. Composition of the league:
towards the end of the season, teams will be contacted to confirm their
commitment for the following season - this must be given by the end
of May. New applicants must apply in writing to the Secretary and
their application will be considered at the AGM. In view of possible
resignations or new applications, the committee will propose to the
AGM the composition of divisions for the coming season. The league
will operate a two-up, two-down promotion and relegation system
unless withdrawals make other adjustments necessary.
4 (a) League positions are decided
on points won; in the event of a tie involving promotion or
relegation, positions will be decided on the average match points
over the season. If positions are still unresolved a play-off
between the teams involved shall take place.
(b) In the event of teams playing a
different number of games in any one division, league positions
shall be decided on average league points per game and then if
necessary as in Rule 4(a)
(c) All fixtures of any team
dropping out of the League during the course of a season shall be
deleted.
(d) Any postponed matches must be
re-arranged prior to 31st May.
5. Each team shall pay an
affiliation fee decided by the committee to be paid by the end of
May. New teams shall pay at the AGM. The committee reserves the
right to refuse entry to any team to the League for non-fulfillment
of fixtures) in previous seasons.
6. Any team may offer a home venue
of suitable standard at the AGM.
7. A player can represent only one
team per season.
8. Each team has one vote at the
AGM. the Officers of the League also have an individual vote
(Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Treasurer). The Chairman has a
casting vote.
9. Nominations for the League
committee must be sent to the Secretary, in writing by the end of
May. Nominations at the AGM will only be accepted in exceptional
circumstances at the Chairman's discretion.
10. Any proposed changes or
amendments to these rules must be made to the Secretary in writing
by the end of May in order to be considered at the AGM.
11. Trophies must be returned to the
Secretary by the end of May.
B. THE QUIZ
1. Teams shall consist of four
persons. In the event of an emergency teams shall be allowed to play
with a minimum of two persons.
2. The quiz shall consist of eight
rounds of which rounds 1, 2, 7 & 8 shall be team rounds
consisting of 14 questions, 2 each of Athletics, Boxing, Football,
Cricket & Horse Racing plus 4 general sports questions.
Round 3 shall be an individual round
of 8 questions comprising one each of Athletics, Boxing, Football,
Cricket & Horse Racing plus 3 general sports questions. Team
members shall select a number between 1-8 to decide the question
asked them.
Round 4 shall be a written round.
Points are awarded on the following basis: 4 points to the winning
team if the margin is three points or more. If the margin is two or
less, three points to the winning team and one to the losing team.
In the event of a tie, teams shall receive two points each. The time duration of the
question shall be decided by the question setter.
Round 5 shall be a written round of
7 questions, comprising one each of Athletics, Boxing, Football,
Cricket & Horse Racing plus 2 general sports questions. A
written answer must be handed in to the question master within 30
seconds of the question master completing each question. Scoring
will be two points for a correct answer.
Round 6 shall be an individual round
of 8 questions, comprising one each of Athletics, Boxing, Football,
Cricket & Horse Racing plus 5 general sports questions. The
captain of each team shall select a number between 1-8, upon which
the question master shall reveal the sport. The captains shall then
nominate which team member shall answer the question.
All questions can be passed to
opponents for a bonus point, except in rounds 4 & 5.
3. Teams shall be asked questions
alternately, except in rounds 4 & 5 where each shall receive the
same question.
4. Spare questions shall be
provided.
5. Points scoring: 2 for a correct
answer, 1 for a bonus, except as rule 2 for rounds 4 & 5.
6. Time allowed for questions shall
be 30 seconds with 10 for a bonus, except as rule 2 for rounds 4
& 5.
7. Match scoring: two points for a
win, one for a draw.
8. Quiz to start between 8.15pm and
8.30pm.
9. The date of the quiz can be
changed in only one circumstance: if a fixture clashes with an
important local football match, teams shall be allowed to play on a
different night at the discretion of the committee.
10. The question master runs the
quiz and his decision is final in all matters. He is responsible for
sending the match result to the secretary.
