The
first ever Inter-League challenge night between the North East
Sports Quiz League and
the Sunderland Echo General Knowledge Quiz League was held on
Thursday September 29th at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
The
night consist of a competition between 8 teams of 4 players
each (4 teams from each league)
The
League was represented by East End Nomads (Dave Westerby, Barry
Wilkinson, Roy Collins & Steve Westerby), a Philadephia team
(Paul Davison, Percy Auty, Jon Mitchell & Dave Laybourne) and a
composite team from Kirk Merrington & Leeholme led by Malcolm
Waugh & Mike Sowerby.
In
the first round of quizzes East End Nomads won their match, while
Leeholme/KM drew and Philly narrowly lost, while a composite team
lost the final game.
East
End Nomads were the highest scorers on the night, so they went
forward to a final against the Echo League's highest scorers, and
took the trophy, with Steve Westerby winning the award for the best
individual performance.
Thanks
must go to the Sunderland Echo Quiz League for initiating the event,
in particular Chris Brewis. Tony Gold did a sterling job in setting
all the questions and performing the role of question-master. Thanks
also go to Shaun Moore of Philadelphia 'B' who organised the venue
and the buffet.
A
